After a long career teaching English in high school,  I moved north in 2011 from Canberra with my husband, Peter, to settle back into his hometown of Ballina. Initially I continued working part-time, but also enrolled in U3A where my mother-in-law, Eve Stephan, had been a foundation member. I immediately joined the Tuesday walking group and have since tried my hand at photography and Weights for Women. Currently I’m involved in belly dancing, mahjong, French, bird watching, and of course, the walking group. I think that U3A is a wonderful organisation which provides friendship, interesting hobbies and opportunities for social interactions, all of which are so important for us as we grow older. I’m pleased to be able to contribute to the organisation by producing the Newsletter.

Committee Member (Class and Venue Co-Ordinator and Newsletter Editor) Heather Munro – Heather is a retired primary school teacher who has lived and worked in the area since 1988. Within U3A, she enjoys playing, and tutoring Mahjong, bird watching, walking groups and providing individual technology support.

Committee Member Ross Glover

Ross has been a Committee Member for 2 years. He moved to the North Coast in 1980 from Sydney, and have been in Wollongbar for the last 11 years. Ross retired mid 2020 and realised, because of that timing, that it was important to get out with people. Joined U3A for 2021.

He is currently involved with the walking groups, table tennis, birding and the current affairs discussion group.

Committee Member Viv Miller. Viv spent most of her working life as a primary school teacher in Townsville, North Queensland. After that she spent a few years in retail, managing various shops in Townsville. After moving to Lennox Head she spent about 7 years as a volunteer wildlife carer, and is always passionate about animals. The next move was to Ballina where she became involved in U3A, and has served in many different capacities in this organisation.
